Hi, everyone!! I hope all is well with you and your families and at the school. I miss you all a lot…it was wonderful to see a lot of you at the reunion in September. I know I mentioned to those of you I saw that I’m taking this year off from college; I wasn’t ready for college right after high school. Last semester I worked fulltime as a secretary at a local law firm and took 3 night classes just to stay in the game…I managed to pull a 4.0 with those 3 classes, MUCH higher than the grades I was getting as a fulltime student my freshman year last year. So now the fall semester is over and I’m leaving for Honduras on Monday. My flight leaves at 7:30 that morning. I am doing mission work at a boarding school for girls who come from poor, rural families in Honduras. I will be in a town called Santa Rosa de Copan, way up in the mountains in the western part of the country. There are 48 girls between the ages of 12 and 17 who live and go to school there.
The school is called Colegio Maria Auxiliadora (School of Mary Help of Christians), and is run by nuns, none of whom speak English. The girls who go to school there speak the Indian languages that are native to Honduras, and some Spanish as well. I will be teaching them English, as well as dance and singing classes (this should be interesting)…I’m really excited about the experience I’m about to have and really, really hope I will be able to give something to these girls. I return home to New Jersey on May 12th.
I ask that all of you keep me in your thoughts and prayers during the next 3 months. I’m getting more and more scared as the day for my departure gets closer and closer!!! Thank you so much for all the love and support you all showed me during my 3 years at The Family School…I have never forgotten about any of you and really credit the fact that I even want to do something like this to all of you (and God of course); 99% of where I am in my life right now is because of my experience at FFS…and I really mean that. I love you guys a lot…I will have email access when I’m down there but don’t think I’ll be using it very much.
I have a list of people to email regular updates about how things are going, so if any of you would like to be on it, please let me know — I know from experience how annoying those emails can be if you really aren’t interested in reading them!!!!
Thank you again for everything, and for keeping me in your prayers…I will need all the strength I can get while I’m away.
Love,
-C.
