Alumni Note to a Teacher at the Family Foundation School:

Dear Jim,

My first day of school started yesterday.  It is a very small, well-respected, Christian School in Roanoke.  There are eleven other kids in my grade, only one of which is a boy.  As far as getting along with my peers, it has not been so bad, but schoolwork is another story.  It is run much like college and the teachers have very high expectations of their students.  I am already dropping one of my five courses because it takes me around four hours to finish my homework efficiently, and doing cross-country may interfere with this need of such time.

The courses I am taking are Calculus, Physics, American Literature, Geopolitics, and Reformation Theology (until I drop this one).  Thanks to the Family School, Calculus and Physics seem easier to me than to my other peers.  In Calculus we are reviewing trigonometry.  So far, we have done Pascal Triangles and unit circles.  Studying for the Math B regents has really aided in being prepared for this class.  I know it will get more difficult, but for right now, the things we are doing in this class are almost jokes compared to all we did in your classes.  I hope your classes are good this year and thank you for preparing me for a college-type atmosphere.

E. L.
