The Family Foundation School

A therapeutic boarding school located in Hancock, New York, the mission of The Family Foundation School is:

“To heal families, build character and change lives by providing an integrated program of academics, therapeutic counseling, experiential therapy, and 12-Step living to at-risk teens, helping them safely through the crises of adolescence toward responsible adulthood.” [1]

Program of the Family Foundation School

The Family Foundation School accepts students on a rolling admissions schedule year round.   High school students (grades 9-12) that have problems with various addictions (e.g. drugs, alcohol, food, sex, gambling or gaming) and/or other psychological challenges make up the student body.  The school provides a therapeutic milieu based on a twelve-step approach. Students work toward their high school graduation while receiving support for the various behavioral issues that prompted enrollment.

Accreditation and affiliations

The Family Foundation School is accredited as a as a behavioral health care facility by the Joint Commission[2] and as a school by  and the New York State Department of Education[3] and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools [4].

The school is also a founding member of National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs (NATSAP).[5]

The Twelve Step Program and Gratitude

The Twelve Steps [6] are woven through the culture of the campus along with two primary values of recovery programs: acceptance and gratitude.

Alumni

Alumni regularly return to the school to share their experience, strength, and hope with current students[7].
